When planning to buy an e-reader it's important to understand what you really want. Do you want a thin, lightweight device dedicated solely to reading even in difficult environments like the dark or direct sun? Then you want an E-reader. Devices that do one thing really well can be very appealing depending on your needs & preferences.

E-readers offer some advantages over reading e-books on tablets or phones. First, they have screens designed for extended reading that resist the glare of sunlight & cause less eye strain. Secondly, they don’t have a lot of the bells and whistles of a tablet & they're typically much lighter & have a longer battery life. So if you're planning to either read in the dark or the sunlight, an e-reader is for you.

If you want to be able to read books on a device that has other features like browsing the internet, getting email, etc. & if you won't be reading in the dark or the sun, a tablet or phone would work for you as well as a dedicated e-reader.
